A vision from Cordelia sends Angel to kill a demon that turns out to be a protector of a pregnant woman. Angel feels tremendously guilty and takes on the dead demon’s job as protector. He keeps screwing up and loses the woman, who is supposed to appear before a tribunal sometime that night and needs a “champion”. (Note – they go through tunnels and come into some abandoned lobby where Angel has been before—a hint at the next episode)
Angel has to sing karaoke at a demon karaoke bar (we’re hoping to see this joint a lot this season) for a psychic demon to tell him where to go. He steps in as the woman’s champion and wins her protection from the tribunal.
At the end – we see Daria with the lawyers from Wolfram & Hart… just to remind us of the season one finale. AND Angel goes to visit Faith in prison.

This was a fantastic episode that was essentially a giant flashback of when Angel lived in the Hyperion Hotel during the 1950s.
A demon is in the hotel, feeding on people’s fears and making them crazy. People hear voices and commit suicide or act against one another.
Angel learns that a woman down the hall from him stole money from the bank where she worked as a teller. She was fired for being black, even though she “passes as white” because only her father was African-American. Angel befriends her – possibly the first friend he’s had in a long time. In the 1950s, he clearly is not on the righteous path to help anybody.
He helps the woman avoid a PI who is looking for her, but then she betrays Angel and announces that he has blood in his room. An angry mob – probably drawn to craziness by the demon – lynches Angel in the lobby. When everyone leaves, Angel gets down and the hotel demon appears to him. Angel was going to get rid of him, but he tells the demon to feast on the people there and he leaves.
Present day: Angel returns to the hotel to find the demon is still feasting on one person- the woman (Judy) who betrayed him. She apologizes, he accepts, she dies.
Then Angel and the team perform a ritual to rid the hotel of the demon and Angel announces this is the new HQ.
