Enemies / S03E17 Faith tries to take away Angel’s
soul by having sex with him, and then by magic. Angel pretends to lose
his soul and be bad… but it’s all just a ruse to figure out what Faith
is up to with the mayor. We learn that Faith is very hateful and
murderously jealous of Buffy. Lots of scenes with the wacky
mayor who is totally hip to the dark arts, but is constantly
side-tracked by silly things like germs. He’s sort-of a father figure to
Faith. Buffy ends up taking a break
from Angel after watching him kiss Faith – even if it was for pretends! Best Line: Earshot / S03E18 Buffy gets some demon blood in
her system and becomes telepathic. At first, it’s awesome how she can
hear everyone’s thoughts. But then she hears someone’s plan to kill
students and then she goes crazy! Angel feeds her the other demon’s
heart and she prevents one student from killing himself (with a sniper
rifle?) and the lunch lady from poisoning the students in the cafeteria
with rat poison. Jane Espenson episode – HILARIOUS lines. Oz had the best lines when he was
having very deep thoughts about Buffy being able to hear his thoughts.
Also, Wesley’s thoughts about Cordelia are hilarious. And Cordelia’s
thoughts are exactly what she says. This episode didn’t air on its
original date because the Columbine shootings happened within a week of
its air date. It was just sort-of about a school shooting, but
definitely a good idea not to air it at the time. A few callback characters: Best lines: Willow – “The school paper is
edging on depressing, lately. Have you guys noticed that?” Buffy hears that her mother had
sex with Giles (something we’d been wondering!) Buffy to Giles – “We can train
after school if you’re not too busy having sex with my mother!!” NEXT
Xander – “What
did you do for him?”
Giles- “I introduced him to his wife.”
Jonathan,
the lonely kid who wants to kill himself
Oz – “I
don’t know. I always go straight to the obits.”
Buffy to her mom –
“You had sex with Giles? On the hood of a police car? Twice?!?”
