Anna Johns
I used to be a big fan of The Closer. Kyra Sedgwick's character really was quirky, but smart and incredibly forceful-- a good role model for women. Even her wardrobe was great-- mismatched skirts and jackets from JCPenney.
But, I'm done with The Closer now. Not even the promise of Amy Sedaris could bring me back. I watched the first episode of this half-season and decided to cancel my Season Pass because I'm so very, very tired of the same old storyline of Brenda putting her family second behind her job at LAPD. After the great first and second seasons where Brenda has to prove herself to her task force and then her task force fights for her against the rest of the police department, the writers seem to have nowhere else to go but to her home life. I don't understand why Fritz stays with her if she is constantly letting him down and ditching him in favor of his job. At least, shouldn't he, as an FBI agent, understand her passion for her job? But he just comes off as a dummy who keeps letting her take advantage of him and his position with the Feds. Brenda keeps disappointing her parents, too, and it's just getting tiresome.
Another thing that irked me, but just a little, was that no one got killed off. At the end of the first half of the season, we were left hanging... wondering if Lt. Sanchez was going to survive multiple gunshots. He did. Everyone is still there. And I'm bored.
