Anna Johns

Mulder and Scully

The X-Files creator Chris Carter has assembled eight episodes of the series to get you primed for this summer's movie. The new DVD is called The X-Files: Revelations. It includes eight episodes, $8.50 voucher toward seeing The X-Files: I Want to Believe (in theaters July 25th), and extras including David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson at WonderCon.

Carter and executive producer Frank Spotnitz also have on-camera introductions for each episode and how they apply to the upcoming movie.

I probably won't buy this DVD, but I am definitely tempted because it really does have some of the best Monster of the Week episodes:

Pilot (S01E01)- Obviously this needs to be included so people know Mulder and Scully's past. Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) is assigned to The X-Files to spy on Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and debunk his work. Only, she can't explain what happens during their very first case where a boy seems to be abducted by aliens, or something.

Beyond the Sea (S01E12)- In this episode, Scully's father dies and she is a bit emotional. She and Mulder go see Luther Boggs, a man on death row who claims he can help them find a serial killer. He claims he's psychic... Scully, in her fragile state, sort-of believes him but Mulder does not.

The Host (S02E02)-
One of the best damn episodes EVER. In this one, The X-Files is shut down and Mulder gets called out on a weird murder case in the sewers of, where else, New Jersey. It turns out a man/parasite is living in the sewers killing people down there. It has a terrifying worm face and escapes at the end even though he's cut in half. Freaky!

Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose (S03E04)- Also a classic. This one guest stars Peter Boyle as a life insurance salesman who can see how people will die. Mulder seeks his help while searching for a serial killer while the cops seek the assistance of famous psychic, The Stupendous Yappi.

Memento Mori (S04E15)- Scully has cancer. There's a giant tumor in her nose. Mulder is convinced that it has to do with her abduction two years ago and sets out to prove that he is right. Scully ends up having something removed from her neck (likely something put there when she was taken) and her cancer recedes.

Post-Modern Prometheus (S05E06)- Yet another excellent episode. This one guest stars John O'Hurley as a modern-day Dr. Frankenstein. In this episode, small-minded people in a small town think there's a monster called The Great Mutato. Turns out, it's a deformed man (Think: 'Sloth' on The Goonies) who is impregnating women when they're knocked out.

Bad Blood (S05E12)- Another favorite. Luke Wilson guest stars as a bucktoothed sheriff in a town with a vampire. Well, it turns out everyone is a vampire in that town and they're tired of all the stigma surrounding the living dead. One of the funniest episodes of The X-Files I've ever seen.

Milagro (S06E18)- A terrific, mind-bending thriller. Mulder and Scully are investigating a serial killer. Mulder's neighbor, an author, gets a crush on Scully. Long story short, everything the neighbor writes in his novel comes true because... he's the killer!!

What's missing from this best-of DVD? Well, Little Green Men for one. Also Jose Chung's 'From Outer Space'.
